Magmatism of the Earth and related strategic metal deposits


Participants can take part in one-day field excursions to the famous ore deposits and geological localities of Ural mountains (please, follow links for details).You can preliminary express your interest in participation in excursions here. You can choose any excursions you want before 31.01.2017 and indicate it in questionnaire. During the February 2017, we shall prepare a time-table of excursions to satisfy participants wishes, transportation capacity and reasonable timing.Indicated prices of excursions are preliminary. More precise Information will be in April, 2017. They may be corrected depending from actual fuel prices, number of interested participants etc.

Please, note that the aim of geological excursions is to allow participants to examine objects, but not in taking them home.If you are planning on collecting a considerable amount of material (rock and mineral samples) during the excursions and taking this material outside of Russia,you will need a special, state-issued permit regardless of whether you will be taking the samples into your suitcase or mailing them.


 The spouses and participants of the conference are welcome to the historical tour through the old Miass and degustation of traditional Russian dumplings - pelmeni.

The tour will include (i) the walking through an old part of Miass, which was established in 1773 and became the capital of a “gold fever” region in the 1800s due to discovery of primary and placer gold deposits; (ii) visit to Miass Museum of Local History located in the former mansion of famous Miass gold merchant Egor Simonov; (iii) visit to the former mansion of rich Miass merchant Smirnov and
lunch at Russian cuisine cafe inside of Museum of Pelmeni.

An additional bonus of the tour is visit to the beautiful Lake Turgoyak (depending on the weather conditions).

Ilmen Nature Reserve (2-3 mines)

The Ilmen mountains - a place famous for its beautiful scenery and unmatched diversity of minerals - have always been a mecca for scientists and mineral enthusiasts worldwide. Scientific study of the area started over 200 years ago when Russia and Europe first got to know about the mineral riches of the Ilmens.

«Zolotaya Gora» Deposit: Au-bearing rodingites in the alpine-type ultramafic rocks cuprous gold

«Zolotaya Gora» (translation is Golden Mountain) is a former gold deposit. It’s located in 50 km to North from Miass and placed inside large metaperidotite massif (length about 12 km).

Borisovskiy granite pluton ("Russian Brazil")

The Late Paleozoic Borisovskiy granite pluton is a part of the major granite zone of the Urals that extends for 500 km from Verkhoturye to the southern termination of Mugodzhary) (Geology of the USSR, 1969). The NNE trending pluton of 20 x 7 km in area extending from the Upper Sanarka settlement to the northern outskirts of Plast belongs to the Varlamovo Complex of granitic rocks (Ferschtater et al., 99 ). The relief of the region is smooth and weakly hilly. The pluton comprises medium- to coursegrained porphyritic granite accompanied by veins of leucocratic two-mica and muscovite granite, alaskite, aplite, porphyry granite, and granite pegmatite (L'vov, 1965).

Vishnevogorsky Alkaline Complex


The Ilmeny-Vishnevogorsky Alkaline Complex is one of the largest alkaline complexes containing miaskites, carbonatites, fenites and abundant rare metal—rare earth mineralization with large deposits of Nb, Zr and REE. This complex is situated in the Southern-Central Urals and has been known since the late 18th century. Miaskite (a variety of nepheline syenite) and a number of new minerals (ilmenite, monazite, aeschynite, cancrinite, chevkinite, pyrochlore) were firstly described there.
